Reactions to facials and waxing
March 17, 2010
Everyone’s skin is different and you can’t expect your experience to be the same as anyone’s.
Jeska and I decided to try out a very intense peel treatment by Rhonda Allison. After our facials we compared notes and were quite surprised at how different our reactions were to the peels. My skin responded very well and I had amazing skin for weeks to come. I had some minor flaking around the cheeks and chin for maybe one day, otherwise, my skin glowed and had zero issues.
Jeska’s reaction ended up with positive results but went through a serious purge. Her skin broke out around the jawline and peeled as if she was recovering from a serious sun burn. After nearly 2 weeks of intense peeling and flaking, her skin looked amazing.
Keep in mind, we did the exact, same facial treatment.
I, too, have had the same reaction as Jeska and it is normal. The skin will react based on many different factors such as what you ate, drank, hormones, sleeping habits and stress. For instance, the skin will be way more sensitive if you had a few drinks the night before and didn’t properly hydrate the next day. Hormones, especially when premenstrual, can also affect the skin.
Waxing can also be the same. Ever wonder why your friend had such an amazing experience with her waxing, never mentioning swelling or bleeding? And your experience left you feeling cheated and lied to. She may not have thick roots and this is one of the main culprits of pain, bleeding and swelling from waxing. Plus, you must remember the unfortunate fact, that hair was meant to be there.
I don’t want to scare anyone away from these services, but keep in mind that everyone’s experience is different. Never be afraid to ask questions! This is your face and body, after all, and it is you want to be good to it!
